President & Chief Investment Officer
Steve Nelson is the Founder, President, and Chief Investment Officer of EJM Investments, LLC (EJM Investments). Prior to forming EJM Investments in 2009, Steve spent 2006 to 2008 as an Institutional Portfolio Manager in the Fixed Income Group of Fidelity Management & Research Company, the investment arm of Fidelity Investments. In this role, Steve was a member of the portfolio management team responsible for the development and implementation of institutional fixed income investment strategies. In that role he also regularly met with institutional investors, investment boards, and consultants to review portfolio strategies, holdings, investment rationale, market conditions, and market outlook. During this time Fidelity’s Fixed Income Group managed over $600 billion of bond and money market investments.
From 2002 to 2006, Steve was one of four Managing Directors of Research responsible for the oversight of all investment analysis and portfolio recommendations for more than forty research analysts and associates. During this time, he also had a leading role in expanding the Fixed Income Group’s research coverage in London, Hong Kong, and Tokyo. Steve regularly met with Boards of Trustees for Fidelity’s mutual funds and large separate accounts to review portfolio holdings, risk management, key market events, trends, and research initiatives. In addition, he was a member of Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s investor council working groups, had a key role in Fidelity’s response to the SEC, U.S. Congress, and industry groups on rating agency reform, and presented at industry conferences.
Steve joined Fidelity in 2000 as a research analyst in the Fixed Income Group. As an analyst he was responsible for the research and investment recommendations for U.S. banks, broker-dealers, investment managers, and financial guarantors across all fixed income portfolios. His recommendations represented some of the largest investment positions in the funds.
Before joining Fidelity, Steve was a Vice President and Senior Credit Officer in the Financial Institutions Group at Moody’s Investors Service for three years. While at Moody’s he was a member of the top-rated finance sector research team recognized by Institutional Investor magazine. Previously, Steve was at Price Waterhouse in their valuation consulting group.
Steve received a BS degree in Finance from the University of Illinois and an MBA with Distinction from DePaul University. He is an Evans Scholar and a Director Emeritus of the Western Golf Association. Married for 32 years to his wife, Barb, they have 3 adult sons.
